Troubleshooting for Notta Desktop

Notta Desktop is currently in beta. We are continuously updating the app, but you may experience occasional instability. Please share your feedback at support@notta.ai.

πŸ”Š Audio Issues

System audio isn't recording

Step 1: Check your OS version.

  • macOS: System audio requires macOS 13 or later. On macOS 11 or 12, this feature is not available β€” microphone-only recording still works.
  • Windows: System audio is supported on Windows 10 and later. No version restriction applies.

Step 2: Check the System Audio toggle. Make sure it is enabled in the recording window before you start.

Step 3: Check permissions for your platform:

  • macOS 14.4+: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording > System Audio Recording Only >  Enable Notta.
  • macOS 13–14.3: Privacy & Security > Screen Recording > Enable Notta.
  • Windows: No permissions are required. If audio still isn't captured, check that your default playback device is set correctly in Windows Sound settings (right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar > Sound settings > Output).

Step 4: Restart Notta after any changes, then try again.

Microphone not picking up audio

Step 1: Check microphone permissions.

  • macOS: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone > confirm Notta is enabled.
  • Windows: Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone > confirm Notta is allowed.

Step 2: Check that the correct microphone is selected in the recording window.

Step 3: Make sure the mic isn't muted at the system level.

  • macOS: System Settings > Sound > Input > confirm the input level is active.
  • Windows: Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar > Sound settings > Input > confirm the input level is active.

Step 4: Close and reopen Notta, then test again.

Microphone recording volume is low

Please check the microphone input volume in your system settings and try increasing it if needed.

πŸ“‘ Meeting Detection

Meeting detection isn't working

Step 1: Confirm Meeting Detection is enabled.

  • macOS: Click the menu bar icon > Notta > Enable Meeting Detection, or right-click the menu bar icon and check the option.
  • Windows: Click the system tray icon > Enable Meeting Detection, or right-click the tray icon and check the option.

Step 2: Make sure Notta is running before you join the meeting. It won't detect a session that's already in progress.

Step 3: There is a 60-second cooldown between detection prompts for the same app. If you dismissed a prompt recently, wait and try joining again.

βš™οΈ App Performance and Stability

App is slow or using too much memory

Step 1: Refresh the app window: ⌘R (macOS) or Ctrl+R (Windows).

Step 2: Restart Notta.

Note: Normal memory usage is approximately 200–300 MB when idle and up to approximately 1 GB during active transcription. If usage is consistently higher, restart and try again.

App won't launch

Step 1: Confirm your OS meets the minimum requirements.

  • macOS: Requires macOS 11 or later and Apple Silicon (Apple menu > About This Mac).
  • Windows: Requires Windows 10 or later, x64 (64-bit).

Step 2: Re-download and reinstall from the Notta website.

On Windows, if the app still won't launch after reinstalling, try right-clicking the installer and selecting Run as administrator.
