Getting Started with Notta Desktop

Notta Desktop is currently in beta. We are continuously updating the app, but you may experience occasional instability. Please share your feedback at support@notta.ai.

Notta Desktop is an app that lets you record and transcribe meetings directly on your Mac or PC — without relying on a bot. This guide covers installation, login, and basic setup.

1. System Requirements

Requirement macOS Windows
OS Version macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later Windows 10 or later
Architecture Apple Silicon (M1 or later) / Intel processor x64 (64-bit)
System Audio Requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later Supported on Windows 10 or later
Storage 500 MB or more free space
Network Required for login, transcription, and data sync

2. Download and Installation

2.1 Download from the official website

macOS

  1. Download the .dmg file from the Notta official website.
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag the Notta icon into the "Applications" folder.
  3. Launch Notta from the "Applications" folder or Launchpad.
  4. If macOS displays a message saying "Notta is an application downloaded from the Internet", click Open. This only appears on first launch (Notta is notarized by Apple).

Windows

  1. Download the .exe installer from the Notta official website.
  2. Run the installer. You can customize the installation path and choose whether to create shortcuts on the desktop or Start menu.
  3. Once installation is complete, Notta will launch automatically.
    • If a Windows Defender security warning appears, click More info > Run anyway.

2.2 Download from Notta Web

  1. Log in to Notta Web, then click Integrations & Apps in the lower-left corner of the sidebar.

  3. Your computer's OS (macOS / Windows) will be automatically detected, and the corresponding installer will be downloaded.
  4. Run the installer. You can customize the installation path and choose whether to create shortcuts on the desktop or Start menu.
  5. Once installation is complete, Notta will launch automatically.

3. Account Sign-in

Notta Desktop supports the following login methods:

  • Google account
  • Microsoft account
  • Apple ID (macOS only)
  • Email and password
  • Email verification code
  • SSO (Enterprise)

Once logged in, your recordings and transcriptions will automatically sync across all devices where you use Notta.

4. Interface Overview

The desktop app layout is similar to Notta Web:

  • Left sidebar: Workspace, folders, settings
  • Center area: Recording list and transcription content
  • Menu bar (macOS) / System tray (Windows): Quick access to start recording, check status, and change settings

Note:

  • On macOS, closing the main window does not quit Notta — it remains in the menu bar. To fully quit, right-click the menu bar icon and select "Quit Notta".
  • On Windows, closing the main window quits the app. If you are recording, minimize the window instead of closing it.

Next Step

Ready to record your first meeting? See "What is Bot-Free Recording?" to understand how it works, or jump straight to "System Audio Setup for Notta Desktop" to configure permissions on macOS.
