System Audio Setup for Notta Desktop

Notta Desktop is currently in beta. We are continuously updating the app, but you may experience occasional instability. Please share your feedback at support@notta.ai.

To record both your voice and other remote participants' audio (system audio) using Notta Desktop, specific permissions are required depending on your OS version.

Windows

On Windows 10 and later, Notta captures system audio using WASAPI. No extra setup is needed—just turn on the System Audio toggle when starting your recording.
If system audio still isn't working on Windows, see "Troubleshooting for Notta Desktop".

macOS: Check Your Version

Apple menu > About This Mac > look for the macOS version number.

macOS 14.4 and Later (Sonoma)

These systems use a newer audio capture method that requires only a microphone-adjacent audio permission, not screen recording.

To grant permission:

  1. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.
  2. Find Notta under System Audio Recording Only and enable it.
  3. If Notta is not listed, click the + button at the bottom of the list. In the file picker that appears, select Notta and click Open.
  4. Restart Notta to apply the permission changes.

macOS 13.0 to 14.3 (Ventura and early Sonoma)

These systems capture system audio through ScreenCaptureKit, which requires the Screen Recording permission.

To grant permission:

  1. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
  2. Find Notta in the list and enable it.
  3. If Notta is not listed, click the + button at the bottom of the list. In the file picker that appears, select Notta and click Open.
  4. Restart Notta to apply the permission changes.

Note: Granting Screen Recording permission does not mean Notta records your screen during meetings. It is required by macOS to access system audio on this version.

macOS 11 and 12 (Big Sur, Monterey)

System audio recording is not supported on these versions. Notta will record your microphone only. If you enable the System Audio toggle, it will be unavailable or automatically disabled.

All other Notta Desktop features — instant recording, file upload transcription, screen recording, meeting detection — work normally.

Verify It's Working

When system audio is being captured, you can usually see a system-level indicator in your OS status bar or Control Center.

If the system indicates only a single audio source is active (e.g., only Notta), system audio may not be captured. If the recording doesn't seem to be working correctly, please recheck the permission settings for your OS version above and restart Notta.

Next Step
