On Notta Business/Enterprise plan, permissions can be assigned to a member and a member group, which can cause permission conflict.
We will introduce the rules to deal with permission conflict in the following paragraph.
How to deal with conflict between member permission and group permission for the same file/folder?
If a member’s permission towards a file/folder differs from the group he/she belongs to, the member’s permission will override the member group’s.
Example:
Let’s say member A belongs to Group B. Member A has 'Can view' permission toward file X, while member group B has 'Full access'. Then member A’s permission toward file X will be Can view.
How to deal with permission conflict of a member/member group?
If a member/member group has different permission to a file and the folder in which the file is stored, the permission level to the file will override the permission for the folder.
Example:
Let’s say file X is stored under folder Y. Member A has Full access to file X, and Can view permission to folder Y. Then member A has Full access to file X and Can View access to other files (exclude file X) in folder Y.
How to deal with permission conflict of one member in different group?
If one member belongs to multiple groups and there are permission conflicts towards a file/folder due to different group permissions. In this case, the member’s permission toward the file/folder is based on the highest permission level.
Example:
Member A belongs to Group B and Group C.
Group B has Full access permission to file X.
Group C has Can view permission to file X.
Then member A has Full access permission to file X.
How to deal with permission conflict of a member’s permission to a file and the Group permission to the folder where the file is stored?
If a member’s permission toward a file is conflicted with his/her Group permission toward the folder where the file is stored, or if a member’s permission toward a folder is conflicted with his/her Group permission toward the file stored under this folder, then the member’s permission take privilege.
Example #1:
Member A belongs to group B.
File X is stored in folder Y.
Member A has Full access permission to file X, and Group B has Can view privileges to folder Y. In this case, member A has Full access to file X.
Example #2:
Member A belongs to group B.
File X is stored in folder Y"
Member A has Can view access to file X, and Group B has Full access to folder "Y". In this case, member A has Can view permission to file X.
How to deal with permission conflicts when the file is moved to different folder?
If the file is moved to a different folder, the member's permissions on this file are changed to the permissions on the target folder.
Example #1
Member A has Full access permission to folder Y Can view permission to folder Z.
File X is moved from folder Y to folder Z.
In this case. Member A’s permission to file X changed from Full access to Can view.
Example #2
File X is stored in folder Y.
Member "A" has Full access permission to folder Y, Can view permission to folder Z, and No access permission to file X.
File X is moved from folder Y to folder Z.
In this case. Member A’s permission to file X changed from No access to Can view.
