Use Notta Brain in Slack

Prerequisites for using this feature
Plan: Available on all plans
Role: Available to all roles (requires personal Slack authorization)
Platform: Slack (authorization via Notta Brain Web)

Notes:

Each question asked via Slack Bot consumes 100 AI Credits, the same as a Chat Q&A on the web.
The Bot can only access your own content in Notta Brain (meeting transcripts, uploaded files). It cannot access other users' data.
Slack conversations with the Bot are not synced to Notta Brain. They only appear in Slack.
The Bot only supports text answers. File generation (Slides, Word, PDF) is not available via Slack.

What is Notta Slack Bot?

Notta Slack Bot lets you ask Notta Brain questions directly in Slack — no need to switch to the web. Simply @mention the Bot in any channel or DM, and it will answer based on your meeting transcripts and uploaded files in Notta Brain.

Connect Slack (Authorization)

⚠️ Your Slack Workspace Admin must approve the Notta Slack Bot installation before you can connect. Please contact your Slack admin if the installation is not yet approved.

Go to Notta Brain (app.notta.ai/brain).
Navigate to Settings > Integrations & Apps.
In the left sidebar, under "Use Brain in your Apps", click Apps.
Select the Workspace you want to use with Slack from the "Select Workspace" dropdown.
Find the Slack card and click Connect.
You will be redirected to the Slack OAuth page. Select your Workspace and click Allow.
After authorization, you'll be redirected back to Settings.

Disconnect Slack

Go to Settings > Integration & Apps.
Find the Slack card.
Click Disconnect.
A confirmation dialog appears: "Once disconnected, you won't be able to select Box files to ask questions in Notta Brain".
Click Disconnect. The authorization is revoked immediately.

⚠️ After disconnecting, the Bot will stop responding to your @mentions immediately. Your Slack OAuth token is invalidated and not retained.

🤖 Use the Bot in Slack

Ask a Question

In any Slack channel or DM, type @Notta Bot followed by your question.
- Example: @Notta Bot What were the follow-up items from last week's client meeting?
The Bot immediately replies with "Thinking..." (a temporary placeholder message).
Within approximately 10 seconds, the answer replaces the "Thinking..." message.
100 AI Credits are deducted upon successful response.

What You Can Ask

The Bot answers questions based on your Notta Brain knowledge base:

Meeting transcripts and summaries
Uploaded files in your Library
Any content you can query via Chat Q&A on the web

What the Bot Cannot Do

Generate files (Slides, Word, PDF, images) — use Notta Brain web for these.
Remember previous questions (each question is independent, no multi-turn conversation).
Access other users' content.

Long Answers

If the Bot's answer exceeds 3,000 characters, it will be truncated with a "View full answer" link at the end. Click the link to view the complete response in Notta Brain web.

📱 App Instructions

The Slack Bot works in any Slack client (desktop, mobile, web) — no Notta app required.

Authorization must be completed on the Notta Brain web (app.notta.ai/brain > Settings > Integration & Apps).

iOS/Android Notta app does not have a Slack authorization entry point in this version.

⚙️ Settings & Options

Connect / Disconnect: Managed in Settings > Integration & Apps on Notta Brain web.
One account, one connection: Each Notta account can only be linked to one Slack account.
Credits consumption: 100 Credits per question (same as web Chat Q&A).
Knowledge scope: Bot only accesses the asking user's own Brain content.
Response format: Answers are formatted in Slack mrkdwn (bold, lists, code blocks, links).

❓ FAQs

Do I need to be a Slack Workspace Admin to use the Bot?

No. But your Slack Workspace Admin must approve the Notta Slack Bot installation first. Once approved, any workspace member can authorize their personal connection.

How many Credits does each question cost?

100 Credits per question, the same as a Chat Q&A on Notta Brain web.

What happens when my Credits run out?

The Bot will reply with a message telling you your Credits are exhausted, showing your next quota reset date, and providing an upgrade link. No Credits are deducted for this response.

Are my Slack conversations with the Bot saved in Notta Brain?

No. Slack Q&A conversations are only visible in Slack and are not synced to Notta Brain.

Can the Bot access my teammates' meeting recordings?

No. The Bot can only access content in your own Notta Brain knowledge base (your transcripts and uploaded files).

What if I just @mention the Bot without asking a question?

The Bot will reply with a helpful prompt: "Please enter your question after @Notta Bot. For example: @Notta Bot What were the follow-up items from last week's client meeting?"

Can I ask the Bot to generate a PPT or document?

No. The Slack Bot only supports text answers. For file generation, please use Notta Brain web. The Bot will guide you there if you try.

What if the Bot fails to generate an answer?

The Bot will reply that generation failed and no Credits were deducted. You can try again.
